Clean water is very important for a child’s development. In Haiti, clean water is expensive. Here at GLA, we have between 3 & 5 trucks of water brought in every week; each one costs $90 USD! This water is not safe for drinking, but is used for bathing, washing clothes, etc. We purchase drinking water in 5 gallon bottles and go through about 65 per week which cost about 55 cents to refill. Total, we spend between $300 and $500 USD a week on clean water!
We currently have 56 children living at GLA: 16 of which are here for temporary assistance and 40 for adoption. They range in age from 4 weeks to 9 1/2 years old. Your generous donation helps us provide clean drinking water for the tiny ones’ formula as well as sanitary food and drink for the older children. According to the World Health Organization approximately 3.575 million people die every year as a result of drinking contaminated water, and we are determined that these little ones will not be added to that statistic. Will you partner with us in providing these children with a safe place to grow and thrive, without the ever present fear of becoming ill from dirty water?
