By Christina Randazzo | Friends of Adaklu Volunteer
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Friends of Adaklu recently celebrated an important milestone in Adaklu Dawanu, Ghana, where we successfully completed a clean water project that provides the local school and surrounding community with access to a reliable source of clean water.
For years, families in Dawanu depended on the Dawa River for their daily water needs. With the support of our donors and community partners, we were able to repair an existing borehole and drill a new, deeper borehole equipped with a water storage tank. This project has made a meaningful difference in the daily lives of students and families, helping reduce their dependence on untreated river water.
Now, we hope to bring that same life-changing opportunity to the nearby community of Adaklu Kpetsu.
In Kpetsu, the community faces a different water challenge. Although a borehole exists, the groundwater contains high levels of salt, making it unsuitable for drinking. Water testing confirmed that sodium and chloride levels exceed recommended standards. As a result, families currently depend on a nearby stream for their water needs.
Our current priority is to raise funds to install a reverse osmosis (RO) water filtration system that can remove excess salt and other impurities from the borehole water, making it safe to drink. This system would provide a more reliable source of clean drinking water for children and families, reducing their dependence on untreated stream water and supporting better health throughout the community.
Giving Tuesday: December 1, 2026
We are excited to share that Friends of Adaklu will participate in GlobalGiving's Giving Tuesday campaign on December 1!
During this special day of giving, eligible donations will receive an additional boost from GlobalGiving, helping your generosity go even further toward bringing clean drinking water to Kpetsu.
Our success in Dawanu has shown us what is possible when people come together to support a community. With your help, we hope to make clean drinking water a reality for Kpetsu, too.
Thank you for being part of this journey and helping us bring lasting change to the communities of Adaklu. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to making clean water accessible to families who need it.
With gratitude,
The Friends of Adaklu Team
