Conscious Kenya plans to construct six 10,000 litre water collection and storage points in Vinwandani to provide clean and safe drinking water to over 10,000 residents. The area has been used as an illegal dumping site for over 30 years, leaving the residents with little to no access to clean water for their domestic needs. Access to clean water will enable these people to improve their health and hygiene, have better sanitation, reduce cases of waterborne diseases, and have social stability.
Over 50,000 people in Viwandani lack access to clean and safe drinking water. According to various community institutions like Muungamano wa Wanajiji (Social Movement of Slum Residents), water and sanitation issues in slum areas are increasing. Viwandani faces water shortage in dry seasons, water rationing, expensive water prices from cartels, salty water, and water pipes contaminated with sewer pipes causing the spread of diseases like cholera. This project will affect over 10,000 people.
This project will provide over 10,000 residents in the area with access to clean, safe, reliable, and affordable water for domestic use. Access to clean water helps reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and diarrhoea. A reliable water supply at fair prices reduces the financial burden on residents who buy at high prices from water cartels. Our project can ensure a steady water supply even during dry spells, helping the community adjust to climate change impacts.
Our Aqua Empower Initiative in Viwandani is transformative, addressing not only immediate water needs but also fostering broader social, economic, and environmental benefits for over 10,000 residents. We will observe improved public health, economic growth and stability, environmental stability, strengthened community resilience, sustained development impact, enhanced education opportunities, empowered women and girls, and breaking the cycle of poverty. Thus transforming lives in the long-term.
