Phase 1 of this project began in July 2025, with Friends of Humanity providing USD 8,600 to protect Kingwangala's water source by securing the site, building a reinforced reservoir, and preparing the catchment system. This first phase is now complete. Phase 2 aims to bring that water to the village. We seek USD 23,420 to install a solar-powered pump, a 5,000L tank, and a 1.2 km pipeline, ensuring more than 6,000 residents gain safe and reliable water for daily life.
The village of Kingwangala, located in the rural province of Kwango in DR Congo, does not have direct access to safe drinking water. Families must walk more than 1 km to reach an unprotected water source exposed to contamination. This affects all households, especially women and children who collect water daily, leading to health risks, poor hygiene, reduced school attendance, and limits on agriculture and community life.
This project will install a solar-powered pump, a 5,000L water tank, and a pipeline connecting the distant water source to Kingwangala. These systems will bring safe drinking water directly to the village, ending long daily walks and reducing exposure to contaminated water. Families, especially women and children, will gain reliable access to clean water for health, hygiene, school, and agriculture.
This project will give more than 6,000 residents of Kingwangala lasting access to safe drinking water, ending dependence on a distant and unsafe water source. Over time, families will experience better health, improved hygiene, stronger school attendance, and more stable agriculture. Reliable water will support long-term community development and resilience.
