Clean water access for Rural communities in Tororo

By Henry Okumu | Project Leader

Safe Water Supports Health, Education, and Dignity
AlliedAid Uganda recently completed the repair of a vital community borehole in rural Tororo District, Eastern Uganda. The borehole had been out of service, leaving many households dependent on alternative sources of water that were often inconvenient and potentially unsafe.
For families living in rural communities, access to a nearby safe water source is essential. When water becomes difficult to obtain, household hygiene suffers, children may miss school, and adults lose valuable time that could otherwise be used for farming and income-generating activities.
With financial support from GlobalGiving donors, AlliedAid Uganda was able to respond to this urgent need. The borehole was assessed by technicians, necessary repairs were completed, and the water point was tested before being reopened for community use.
The restoration has provided immediate relief to residents. Families can now collect water closer to their homes and spend less time searching for alternative sources. The improved availability of water also gives households greater opportunity to practice good hygiene and sanitation.
Education is another important benefit. Children who previously helped their families search for water now have more time to concentrate on their studies. This is especially important for girls, who are often disproportionately affected by household water-collection responsibilities.
To protect the investment, AlliedAid Uganda is supporting community-led management of the borehole. Residents are being encouraged to keep the surroundings clean, use the facility responsibly, and participate in routine maintenance.
We are deeply thankful to all GlobalGiving donors who contributed to this project. Your support has helped turn a broken water point into a renewed source of hope for the community.
