China Development Brief Hosts Closed-Door Symposium on Chinese NGOs' Global Governance Participation Beijing, February 26, 2025 – China Development Brief (CDB) convened a closed-door symposium on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the 27 Courtyard Culture Center in Dongcheng District, Beijing.
The event brought together experts, practitioners, and scholars to explore how Chinese NGOs can deepen their engagement in global governance mechanisms, with a focus on challenges, best practices, and strategic pathways.
Background: NGOs as Catalysts for Global Impact In recent years, Chinese social organizations have emerged as vital contributors to national development, driving economic growth, social innovation, and international exchanges. As China’s global influence expands, these groups have increasingly engaged in global governance arenas such as environmental and climate affairs. However, their capacity and operational environment still require enhancement to fully participate in international mechanisms. The symposium, supported by International Development Observer, aimed to bridge this gap by drawing insights from international NGOs’ experiences in United Nations-led governance and fostering cross-sector dialogue on enhancing Chinese organizations’ global roles.
Symposium Highlights: Insights and Discussions The half-day event featured a structured agenda of keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive sessions:
1. Opening Remarks (14:00–14:10) Wang Zhuolun, Executive Director of China Development Brief, delivered the opening address, emphasizing the urgency of strengthening Chinese NGOs’ participation in global governance to align with the current international situation.
