Specialized Nutrition for 16 Seriously Ill Children

Thanks to the support received through GlobalGiving, City of Goodness was able to purchase 56 cans of Peptamen Junior 1.0 kcal/ml, providing eight days of specialized enteral nutrition for 16 seriously ill children receiving care at our medical center, the House of Butterflies.

Today, more than 70 children receive care at our medical center. Almost half of them are children with severe and life-limiting conditions who require palliative care. Our team works every day to ensure that these children can live without unnecessary pain and discomfort and receive comprehensive medical care, rehabilitation, attentive daily support, and appropriate nutrition.

For some of our patients, specialized enteral nutrition is not simply an additional source of food — it is the only safe way for their bodies to receive essential nutrients.

Currently, 16 children depend on Peptamen Junior 1.0 kcal/ml: 13 children in our palliative care unit and three children undergoing rehabilitation. Together, they require approximately seven cans every day, or 210 cans per month.

With each can costing approximately UAH 600, maintaining a stable supply represents a significant recurring expense for our medical center. Through this project, we purchased 56 cans, covering the full nutritional needs of these 16 children for eight days.

Why This Support Matters

Enteral nutrition is essential for children who cannot safely eat or receive sufficient nutrition in a conventional way. It provides the calories, protein, vitamins, and micronutrients their bodies need in a form they can tolerate.

For our 16 young patients, having the right formula available every day means continuity of care, safer nutrition, and one less critical uncertainty for both the children and the medical team caring for them.

The House of Butterflies is a unique medical center in Ukraine that brings together pediatric palliative care and rehabilitation for children, including orphans, children deprived of parental care, and children affected by the war.

Our philosophy is that palliative care is not only about managing a diagnosis. It is about helping a child live every day with dignity, comfort, warmth, and care. Behind every medical procedure, rehabilitation session, or can of specialized nutrition is a child whose life matters.

Your Support Makes Daily Care Possible

City of Goodness does not receive regular state funding for the operation of the medical center. Our work is sustained through donations from individuals, philanthropic partners, and socially responsible businesses.

This is why support through GlobalGiving has a very practical and immediate impact. 56 cans may look like a simple purchase, but for 16 children who depend on specialized nutrition, they mean eight days of uninterrupted access to something their bodies need every single day.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this project and helped us provide this essential care. Your support allows our medical team to focus on what matters most: giving every child the best possible quality of life, regardless of the complexity of their diagnosis.
