Challenge

Foreign aid and national government efforts are responding to the devastating earthquake, but many Nepali citizens are unaware of how to navigate the response processes that are set up to help them. Citizens - especially in hard to reach areas - report not having easy communication channels to aid officials to both give feedback and receive information. Kharanitar VDC in Nuwakot is largely excluded from conversations as part of the recovery process currently despite 98% of homes damaged.

Solution

Through personal interactions, surveys, and community meetings, we aim to reach 6,000 people in four districts most affected by the earthquakes in 2015, and get the community's feedback on the earthquake recovery process through sharing their experiences and also informing about how they can gain access to earthquake recovery resources. Specifically, we aim to support 10 girls from Kharanitar to gain skills and share their unique stories in wider Nepalese media and society.

Long-Term Impact

Citizens will be empowered to give their feedback and receive information about earthquake recovery services available to ensure a fair and inclusive earthquake recovery process for all Nepalese citizens. Citizens in Kharanitar will gain a stronger voice in the earthquake recovery process.
