The holiday season is an especially difficult time for individuals struggling financially, and we believe that no one should go without basic needs during this time - restoring a sense of self-worth during this should-be celebratory time.
For more than 70 years, Goodfellows of Clintonville has been working to ensure there is “No family without a Christmas in the Clintonville and Marion school districts.”
The Goodfellows of Clintonville and Marion, through an Annual Holiday Distribution, provide food vouchers, winter coats, boots, blankets, personal care items, and toys for the children and families in need in their communities.
The drive begins in early November, when volunteers begin collecting the names of potential recipients. Local churches, service organizations and businesses have contributed everything from toys, mittens and caps to blankets and comforters, with every item contributed, finding a good home.
Many of the same organizations have provided countless volunteer hours towards making the annual event a success by their assistance during distribution week.
In 2020, Goodfellows of Clintonville partnered with Jake’s Network of Hope to help stretch their dollars to get the items needed to support their families.
“I love that we can find many of the items our families need in one place. I love that the people that work at Jake’s have such an abundance of hope and compassion,” Mari, Goodfellows of Clintonville and Marion.
Goodfellows of Clintonville utilizes Jake’s Hope Hub to purchase many of the basic toiletries items including; diapers and wipes for nearly 1,000 families with children in the home during the holiday season.
“Basic personal hygiene can go a long way to positive self image. That can only help families struggling to take a step forward,” Mari, Goodfellows of Clintonville and Marion.

When a family is struggling with personal or financial challenges, this can have grave impacts on youth’s ability to pursue a quality education. For example, a lack of period products is among the top reasons girls miss school.
Jake’s actively works to combat this issue through key partnerships with regional school districts, including Oshkosh, Appleton and Green Bay area schools. We provide pads and tampons for schools to stock for girls in need as part of our On the Dot program, and school staff can source diverse basic needs (from clothing to school supplies, hygiene, toys and more) from our My Neighbor Wisconsin Hope Hub resource center.
Here’s a few examples from 2022:
“We are providing free period products in our bathrooms for high school students. This is very helpful to keep them in school during this time for them.” — Kelly, Appleton Area School district/Appleton East High school
“Our intermediate female students now have a locker designated for period products that they can access at any time they need. The products in the locker came from Jake's Network! We have already had students use the locker.” — Leah, Jefferson Elementary School, AASD

Foster parents can oftentimes feel overwhelmed by caring for one or multiple children with many needs, including support from past traumas, medical conditions, developmental disabilities and behavior problems that require extra care.
Lincoln's Foster Closet, a 501c3 non-profit based in Kaukauna, WI, is one of Jake’s community partners who is supporting these children and families in the foster care system with basic needs and enrichment programs.
After volunteering at Jake’s with her daughter a few times, Shana learned more about Jake’s and the resources it provides. She and her daughter were inspired to start Lincoln's Foster Closet and partner with Jake’s to provide an elevated experience to foster care families.
Lincoln’s Foster Closet utilizes Jake’s Hope Hub (part of its My Neighbor program) to purchase items such as clothing, personal hygiene, and baby care needs for a fraction of the price.
“Our favorite thing about the hub is the affordability. We get a lot of needs for a fraction of the price and it goes a long way.Saving money and helping families/children which is our favorite thing to do,” Lincoln Foster Closet Founder Shana said.
Our Foster program partners are all working hard to provide foster children with a childhood experience. By partnering with Jake’s Network of Hope, the anxiety around providing the basics for these children can be reduced, which allows energy to be focused on providing a better experience for the child.
“We absolutely love the assortment of items that bring a sigh of relief and joy to our clients. Plus the staff and volunteers are absolutely amazing, helpful and so kind,” stated Shana, “ Jake's Network of Hope is such a life saver, money saver, and a blessing we truly appreciate. We hope Jake's is around for many, many years to come.”

With a mission to provide the highest quality care at the lowest possible cost to chemically dependent persons and their families, Nova Counseling Services is a State of Wisconsin-licensed provider of medically monitored treatment for people suffering from alcoholism and other drug addictions.
“Recently with all the changes in state policies we have been getting lots of homeless and incarcerated clients,” said Ann Resop, Nova Counseling Services. “All of the items we receive we use to help these individuals so they are able to partake in treatment.”
Nova Counseling Services and Jake’s Network of Hope have partnered up to supply diapers, period products and other basic hygiene items to help individuals fully engage in treatment.
“We have found that having a supply of diapers on site is helpful at visitations. Sometimes parents forget to bring backups, so it has allowed us to ease the burden on the family. During treatment we all run into hiccups, lots of times our females don't have women's products - so, we are supplying them. Thank you for all you do to help all of us,” Ann said.
Through our partnership with Nova Counseling Services, we are working to allow every person a step up toward living healthy, feeling safe and experiencing self-worth so that individuals and communities thrive.
