Project Report | Dec 21, 2023
Continuous Outreach for Donors

By Marlene Keller | Deputy Programmes Manager

To summarize the year 2023, the Community Health Screen Project was mainly implemented in March 2023 as part of the international womens day celebrations. The team of AFAWI conducted free eye screening on that day for approximately 30 women.

Following our last report, due to a lack of funding, further activities are still paused at the moment, however we are positive about resuming our opperations on this particular project in 2024. Our team has already started to reach out to potential sponsors and present the project needs to various key stakeholders

The Community Health Screening Project holds community health screening days in disadvantaged communities.  During these days, AFAWI in partnership with Ghana Health Services, provides free screening for communicable diseases and counseling and information sessions on health services available to community members, as public health care in Ghana is difficult to access, especially in the rural areas.

The reasons for the difficulties for the community to access health services are:

  1. Lack of knowledge of health care programs in the communities,

  2. Lack of basic health care facilities within the communities,

  3. Distance to health care facilities (lack of good roads, electricity, facility building and lack of funding); and

  4. Lack of income to afford basic first aid materials or medicines.

It remains both a national and social issue , as in many communities citizens continuously die of minor injuries and illnesses, that could easily be healed with something as simple as basic first aid or medicine from the pharmacy.

To conduct further activities, we rely on further funding from our generous donors!

Help us to make a change now and enable free health screening for deprived community members in Ghana!
