Since 1976, every Christmas, we have provided thousands of people like with a check to pay their bills, groceries, and rent arrears. A gift that gives hope. In 50 editions of our historic project supported by our donors, we have already delivered 82,000 subsidies, for a total of 33 million. The first aid, amounting to 30,000 lire, was paid to thirty elderly people in Turin at the request of Sister Pierina di Porta Palazzo. Since then, the amount has grown to the current 5
Thousands of elderly people in Italy live alone and in economic hardship. Many survive on minimum pensions that are no longer sufficient to cover basic living costs such as rent, utilities, food, and healthcare. Loneliness and social isolation worsen their condition, increasing vulnerability and making it harder to ask for help. For many seniors, the Christmas bonus (the "13th month" salary or pension) is not an extra - it is a lifeline.
Through the Christmas bonus for the elderly project, we provide a concrete financial contribution to people in economic difficulty during the most critical period of the year. Each donation is transformed into direct support that helps cover essential expenses such as heating bills, groceries, medicines, or rent. But the project goes beyond financial aid. Every delivery is also a moment of human connection: beneficiaries are reached and met with respect, listening and care.
In the short term, the project reduces economic stress and prevents emergencies such as unpaid bills, food insecurity, or untreated health needs. In the long term, it strengthens a culture of solidarity, reinforces trust between communities and support networks, and helps elderly people remain independent and connected. By intervening every year, the project creates continuity and stability for those who would otherwise face recurring hardship alone.
