Progress Report

By Noel Banda | Project Leader

‎Nourishing Minds addresses two critical barriers facing vulnerable children in Blantyre District, Malawi: hunger and lack of access to quality education. The project provides daily nutritious meals and basic educational support to children who are orphaned, living in extreme poverty, or otherwise at risk. Our goal is to keep children in school, healthy, and hopeful about their future.

‎Key Activities This Period
‎- School Feeding Program: Served 12,450 hot meals to 230 children across 3 community schools, 5 days per week.
‎- Educational Support: Distributed 180 learning kits with notebooks, pencils, and textbooks. Provided after-school tutoring for 75 children in literacy and numeracy.
‎- Community Engagement: Held 2 parent workshops on nutrition and child protection with 62 caregivers attending.

‎- Health Screening:
‎Partnered with local clinic to conduct basic health and deworming checks for 200 children.

‎Impact & Outcomes

‎- School Attendance:
‎Average attendance rose from 67% to 89% at partner schools.

‎- Academic Progress:
‎73% of children in tutoring improved reading scores by at least one grade level.

‎- Nutrition:
‎Teachers reported improved concentration and energy levels. No cases of severe malnutrition among enrolled children this quarter.

‎- Testimonial:
‎_“Before Nourishing Minds, my daughter often stayed home because she was too hungry to walk to school. Now she goes every day and wants to be a teacher.”_ — Grace, parent in Blantyre

‎Challenges
‎- Rising Food Costs: Maize and bean prices increased 18% this quarter, stretching our feeding budget.
‎- High Demand: We have a wait list of 120 children we cannot yet support due to funding limits.
