The catastrophic Lushan earthquake claimed the lives of 196 Ya’an residents, injured 13,848, displaced 295,000, destroyed 186,3000 rural buildings, and damaged approximately 430,000 homes. An entire community’s life was devastated in a matter of seconds. Fortunately, the Xintu Center for Community Health Promotion, S.H has been on the grounds addressing an often time overlooked but nevertheless key aspect of disaster, mental health.
Recently, Dr Sun Yijang, a facilitator of China Red Maple Women Support Center in Beijing and a participant in one of Xintu Trainee in Yaan Mental Health workshops, received a national innovation award of RMB 100,000 for a charitable project development in 2014. This award is a direct outcome of a project developed through a Xintu workshop. Thus, Xintu capacity building workshops have undeniable long term impacts on local NGOs.
Although the Xintu Center has made great strides there is still work to be done. This project has a long term goal of supporting a minimum of 1,000 affected families in Ya’an as well as establishing a mechanism for community mental health promotion. Without the support of generous donors like you none of this will be possible. Xintu Center and the entire GlobalGiving team are extremely grateful for all of your kind donations. Thank you!

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.
We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.
They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
