We started rebuilding schools in Nepal after the earthquake. Now, looking for a sustainable way to improve the education of thousands of kids, we propose the creation of the first national "Teacher Training Center of Excellence". The Center will enhance the quality and relevance of education offered to teachers that currently have none or incomplete training. This is phase one of a bigger project. We have a plan, the land secured, love and excitement, and are ready to begin. We just need YOU!
The quality of teacher training in Nepal is very poor. Over 50% of teachers have no or inadequate training; at the primary level, an SLC pass (an exam taken at age 16) will often suffice to become a teacher. Many of Nepal's schools are situated in remote areas, and as such receive little or no assistance from the government. This project will support the implementation of a teacher training program that will serve to more than 450 rural schools in Nepal.
In this first phase, we will build a facility for a Teacher Training Center of Excellence. The Center will incorporate the latest technology and training concepts to enhance the level of teaching and will be available for teachers across the country. We will then implement ongoing practical workshops, Teacher to Teacher programs, a Master Teacher program and seminars to provide teachers and schools with the requisite skills to maximize learning and develop professionally.
Through the creation of The Center and supplementary activities, up to 2,650 teachers will obtain adequate training bringing them up to par with an international standard. 25,000 students will have the opportunity to learn vocational skills to implement locally, continue their education at university level, or gain the aptitude to compete in a global workforce. Raise awareness and teach the value of education for generations to come.
