Lucía is 8 years old and has a wonderful smile. She comes from Puerto Montt, 621,371 miles away from Santiago (the capital of Chile), to the Oncology Rehabilitation Center of Fundación Nuestros to receive treatment for her cancer sequels. Although she has already been discharged from the kinesiological therapy, currently she is still being treated for the after-effects that the chemotherapies caused in her oral health, yes her teeth, something that not many know, because cancer and its treatments, generate alterations such as, inflammation and irritation of the tissues of the mouth, infections, hemorrhage, absence of saliva, contraction of the muscles that allow opening the mouth, alterations of the taste, neuropathies, and malformations of the skeletal and dental system, which are associated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Therefore, in order to improve the quality of life of children with cancer, it is essential that they have specialized care by an oncological pediatric dentist. In Fundación Nuestros Hijos we provide comprehensive rehabilitation to each child and adolescent with cancer. Thank you for helping us to continue working so that Lucía and other children can recover their smile.
