With the support of people like you, Vets With A Mission has raised through its partnership with GlobalGiving, $9,275 to date desgnated for life-changing, life-saving heart procedures. These funds will be utilized next spring. In appreciation for GlobalGiving's support, VWAM itself will match GlobalGiving's contribution with another $9,275 to the Medcine-Equipment-Supply Fund (MESF). Together we can double our impact!
During March 6-24, VWAM will sponsor a charity medical humanitarian mission team to Thua Thien Hue Province in Central Vietnam. Specifically it will sponsor three clinics over 7 days, offering primary healthcare examinations to identify more serious heart conditions. Approximatley 1600-1700 economically disadvantaged ethnic minorities and Kinh (Native Vietnamese) will be screened to identify patients that may need heart procedures - particularly children. The surgeries are done at Hue Central University Hospital at the Heart Center.
The 46 medical and non-medical volunteers, who pay their own expenses to particiapte, will serve in a rural mountainous area in A Loui District, 45 and 70 kilometers respectively west of Hue City. One of the clinics is in Hong Ha, where they will serve for 3 days, and undoubtedly 1 or 2 heart opersaitons will likely come through this clinic visit. The Hong Ha CLinic was built in a joint partnertship between VWAM and Atlantic Philantropic Charities, and constructed in memory of Captain Floyd Olsen, USA, and his five man crew. Their helicopter was shot-down over this village on April 21, 1968. They remain MIA today.
The other two clinics are near the border of Laos, where no humanitarian medical teams have yet to go. VWAM will be the first to go to these remote, out-lying areas in search of individuals who may need their heart problems addressed. The team will work two days each at two different clinics, and again the team will focus on the poor and children.
