With the help of supporters donating through GlobalGiving, and with the support of 2019 medical mission team members, Vets With A Mission will sponsor a number of heart operations through the Children's Heart Surgery Program.
Todate $12,270 has been raised, with $1,390 of that total coming through GlobalGiving. VWAM will be able to help up to four, and possibly one or two more patients, if funds are available, with a life-changing or life-saving heart procedure. This will take place March 29 - April 30, as two humanitarian medical mission charity teams travel to Nam Dong District, in Thua Thien Hue Province about one hour from Hue. Nam Dong is a poor district in a rural, mountainous region.
The two medical mission teams will each serve seven days at clinics. They will offer free healthcare screenings and physical examinations, all part of the process to identify heart patients. Candidates are sent to Hue Central Hospital for further testing and confirmation of the diagnosis. Once the heart defect is confirmed, and financial need verified, VWAM's in-country Program Coordinator makes arrangements with the individual/family and the hospital. An operation can happen in as little as 7-14 days from diagnosis.
You can follow the work of the medical teams, and the possibility of heart operations, by checking Vets With A Mission's Facebook page. It is there that daily reports, along with photo's, are posted that would include the Children's Heart Surgery Program patients.
