School Children of poor and needy families in the West Bank and Gaza of Palestine will receive a backpack plus stationary. Distribution is in August and targets poor and needy children of the West and Gaza. Backpacks for Gaza are made in a sewing factory that employs 20 women, many of them are head of households and supporting their kids with this work. Backpacks and stationary will be distributed to children age 4-14 in targeted areas of the West Bank and Gaza and are selected based on need.
The cost of living in Palestine (West Bank and Gaza) is more expensive than the USA and yet wages in the West Bank and Gaza are very low. Many families do struggle with the cost of education for their children. In fact, many teachers do hold second and third job to provide for their children. Many parents are laborers and they have no job security. They might be employed for a day, a week, or a month, but nothing guaranteed. At any given time, they subject to lose their daily job.
This project will ease the financial burden many families face at the beginning of each school year. Many families have three to six children attending schools at the same time. Most are struggling putting food on the table. Providing these families with basic school supplies to their children will ease such a financial burden. We partnered with the Middle East Children Alliance and 2023 will be our third annual project. We do have good teams in both the West Bank and Gaza to manage such work.
Keep children in school. Provide a second income to families by working in these sewing factories in Gaza. Give hope to those who cannot afford the high cost of living in the West Bank and Gaza. Helping poor and needy families with a backpack and supplies will ease such a burden on certain families. Additionally, having the backpacks made locally will help employ single mothers.
