The Children and Youth Education Development Center project designed at NBCDC aiming primarily to assist needy children and youth and members of the community in furthering their education and developing their capacities and skills. Even if the primary purpose of the project is education, capacity development and skills enhancement, it is also planned to provide a safe heaven and a place for social interaction for children and youth, many of whom have no place to go but the streets.
Education is a weapon to fight poverty in developing countries like Ethiopia. However, the quality of education is less compare to its objective. More than 75 percent of children are attending their school at government school where the class size is big and the methodology is poor. These cause the students couldn't get proper knowledge which make them capable to fight poverty rather they simply pass to the next level and end up with nothing on hand.
Creating an enabling environment where they can develop their hard and soft skills that makes them competent, visionary and problem-solving citizen. One of the lacks they are facing is an encouraging situation that enables them to see themselves deeply and use their potential to break out of the challenges they have been in. Hence the project provides different pieces of training and space that move them to get themselves in a position to achieve their goal.
The project's impact in the long term is on contributing l see visionary, energetic, confident and self-reliant youth who can contribute to the journey that the country is on tackling poverty in the right way. The project also impacts society by building a holistic center where the community members use for edutainment purposes.
