Cntr. for Abused Persons Vigil-Victims of Abuse
On Thursday, May 10, 2017, I (Pamela Pine, CEO, Stop the Silence) received some wonderful news from the Institute on Violence, Abuse, and Trauma (VAT) in San Diego, CA.
The email I received said this: "It is my pleasure to inform you that you have been nominated to receive an award at the 22nd International Summit on Violence, Abuse & Trauma, from September 21st-27th, 2017. This award is given to the individual who exemplifies compassion, wisdom, and tirelessness. They serve those who most need an ally during the most painful of times. This award honors and encourages the qualities of an advocate by recognizing outstanding life achievement on behalf of victims of interpersonal violence."
I wrote back:
"I am thrilled... Thank you so much... My reality is that awards and praise have never been my motivators. Good work (from my perspective and respected others) and results, and the friends and colleagues I have made along the way, have been.
And, yet, I have been in my chosen field for 40 years, and, for those years, and years before that given the family I grew up in, I have been involved with advocacy in one form or another, in one area or another. And, now, to be recognized by my peers, and such illustrious ones at that, means something very real and important to me. I have worked hard, struggled with lots, been successful at much. And this recognition is important to me. And means a lot on many levels.
So, from the bottom of my heart and from the core of my being: Thank you. It is important work that we all do. You have made this person's work even more meaningful
Join us! There is so much to do and in so many ways and so many ways to join us at Stop the Silence... I mean, besides Jill Short being crowned as Mrs. Washington, D.C. (!), and using her platform to reach out about CSA prevention and mitigation...
Our biggest news over the past quarter is our launched on-line training for nannies! We've started in partnership with The Nanny League (thank you so much for your partnership, Lindsay Aspell!!). Stop the Silence set up a comprehensive on-line, certificate training that the nannies that are placed through The Nanny League are now required to take. The nannies can register, pay a small fee, and take the training in one or more sittings, and get a certificate of completion at the end that they can present to their employees.
But we're not stopping there! Over the next weeks, we will be expanding the availability of this training to all nannies, everywhere (the training in currently in English, but it will be available in other languages later). And, we will be tailoring this training and making it available to educators, social workers, counselors, therapists, psychologists, doctors, lawyers, and others soon! That is our primary focus for the next month or two, while we continue to further strategize and set up comprehensive, strategic, and systemic national and international programming. Our programming involves both a bottom-to-top and top-to-bottom focus, working with survivors, service providers, and policymakers. (For the directions that we continue to move in, please see attached, updated Cyprus progress.)
To help build our broad focus, we continue to build piece by piece, situation by situation, focus by focus to bring the best of what we can to meet the overall need. Please see below and pics for the most recent accomplishments - over the past quarter (please see past GlobalGiving reports for Stop the Silence accomplishments over this year).
