While Fall, No Falling Down at Stop the Silence!

By Pamela J. Pine | Department Director, Stop the Silence-IVAT

Location for the HI Summit - Come to HI!
Location for the HI Summit - Come to HI!

We've been working hard during this third quarter of 2021 at Stop the Silence® to get a bunch of things set up for the New Year (can you believe it?!).

Here is an update on our primary news...

Primary Activities this Past Quarter

1. Stop the Silence® - Ongoing applications and programming

Our focus on international and U.S. programming this past quarter has included:

  • Continued work on the setup for the development of our online Masters, Post-Graduate Diploma, and Certificate Level Programmes in Child Trauma and Protection, Level 7. More about this and our progress below.
  • A focus on updating, improving, and moving our nanny (and for others, too) training to a new platform under the Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma (IVAT) called CE21. The training will provide critical information in a new format and allow for Continuing Education (thus the "CE") credit. The transfer of all information is expected by the end of the year!
  • An updated Stop the Silence website under the IVAT banner, and it looks GREAT!
  • A submission to speak at IVAT's March 28-April 1, 2022, Hawai`i Summit to take place at the Convention Center in Honolulu. The focus of the talk, to be made by Pamela J. Pine and Akerei (Rei) Maresala Thomson from New Zealand (with information drawn from various experiental environments and research, including Rei's new Masters dissertation - Congratulations, Rei!), will focus on the effect of mental health issues resulting from childhood abuse/trauma on the workplace. More about the Summit below.
  • All our social media outreach on FBTwitterLinkedIn, etc. for survivors and others.
  • The submission of two more grants for support of training for teachers and day care workers in areas that are home to underserved communities of color, and the identification of future grant possibilities.

2. Getting our online education online!

Stop the Silence® continues to work on the setup for the development of Masters, Post-Graduate Diploma, and Certificate Level Programmes in Child Trauma and Protection, Level 7. We have recruited the experts to develop video presentations that will be used in the first part of the curriculum - the courses for the Certificate level. We expect to go live with this first level of the program marketed primarily to a U.S. audience by the end of 2021; thereafter, once the launch of that level has been tried and any "bugs" addressed, the other levels of the program will be made available, and the program will be marketed to the world. The program is accredited by the University of Applied Research and Development (UARD) in the UK (their performance in the latest QS World University Rankings is ranked first in the world for development studies), but also by Texas A&M, which has a formal relationship with UARD. The program will be priced affordably for both upper- and lower-income countries.

3. The upcoming 19th IVAT International Hawaii Summit.

The HI Summit is a is a multidisciplinary gathering of professionals working together to tackle the major issues in fields dealing with violence, abuse, and trauma. International and local speakers come together to share their findings on causation, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation at both the global level and at smaller, community-based levels. Summit attendees will have the opportunity to gain continuing education credits and meet professional licensure requirements. The Summit is also a great opportunity to network not only within your field, but also with professionals in other fields that may provide valuable insight into how theory and research is applied at the other end of the line. Areas of emphasis include Cultural Components, Homelessness, LGBTQIA+, and Substance Abuse. Evident in our uniquely comprehensive programming, the Summit focuses on linking research, practice, policy and advocacy to provide violence-free living for all. Opportunities for networking, continuing education, specialty certifications, and more make this an event you don't want to miss. And who wouldn't want to hang out a bit in Hawai'i?! More information and registration is available through the link above.

“If you care about the epidemic of violence against women and children, you must attend IVAT. For decades IVAT has bravely supported speakers who not only advocate for reforms but also know how to challenge systems. IVAT is not just a conference that gives out CLE credits; it’s a place where big ideas begin and grow. It’s where everyone has a voice and attendees leave feeling hopeful that change is possible.”

Thanks, all, for your interest and continued support! It makes a HUGE difference in our ability to address these critical issues regarding CSA and ACEs!

Keep safe, all. Keep well. Be kind. Help each other. Pamela J. Pine, Director, Stop the Silence®-A Department of IVAT
