Eversince the corona virus broke out, this project did not only suffer from insufficient, requirement for its accomplishment, but also the target groups who are children, were laid out of schools for safety reasons. This has made it almost impossible to continue with this project. Fund requirements for its running has also not been met yet.
However, other projects which focused on reducing the immediate effects of the corona virus and its subsequent measures, were put in place and to date, it has done well in helping out the community to cope up with the effects of this deadly disease. We have been busy with educating people about the disease and providing hygiene facilities to help improve on hygiene as means of preventing the spread the disease. Similarly, we have also been involved in providing emergency relief items such as food stuff to help those whose jobs were lost due to the circumstances of the disease.
The 'Child Led Clean Environment' project will resume in 2022 when sufficient funds to run could be realized. We encourage our donars to continue supporting and hope that at the very begining of 2022, we can start work on it immediately.
We will in the meantime be updating our donars on other current project such as the 'child mothers' training program' - focusing on equiping them with employable skills in sewing, and the women's land rights project.
Since the corona pandemic began, our progress on this project has been very slow. In fact most of our planned activities had to be canceled and adjusted because it was imposible to reach our main target group -school children who were targeted as ambassadors of the environment.
Since then, CEOU have spent a large amount of time carrying out activities which did not require public gathering, which could spread covid-19. A few radio program were held, arguing people to maintain clean environment to improve human health. CEOU also embarked on planting tree seedlings in nursery beds. These tree seedling will be ready in July 2021 and shall be distributed to homesteads who request for it. The target is to have 30,000 tree seedlings planted in 2021 alone.
CEOU have also been engaged in other areas of work, not directly related to environmental protection. We have been carrying out advocacy and awarenss creation on women's land right and intra and inter clan land conflict transformation
With corona cases going down, we are going to continue with our environment project, targeting school children when it is allowed. We hope ghat we can get the required funds to do that as well.
This project was previously halted due to the corona virus pandemic. The government of Uganda has closed all schools as a respond to to the corona virus spread, and this put a halt in the project, since the project worked mainly with school children.
We had hoped to get the project back up, but up to now, the schools still remain closed. Community engagements have been restricted as well and this has created a situation where we have to be patience and wait for the lockdown measures to be lifted before we can restart activities of the project.
Webelieve we can get back to working on the project by February 2021. We shall keep all our donors updated if anything changes.
Due to the COVID-19 pandamic and subsequent lockdown, our project encouraging children in learning participating in creating clean environment were until now put on suspension.
Since March 2020 the government of Uganda suspended all public gathering including closure of all schools as a way of combating the corona virus pandamic. This has affected our project which works mainly with schools and community kids. However, we plan to resume with the project in due time when the government eases restriction on contacts which would allow us to continue with the project.
During the lockdown period however, we have decided to shift focus abit and contribute to the fight against the corona virus. We have been reproducing information from our ministry of health and the world health organization and translating these information in local languages to help the community understand how to keep safe and avoid infection. We have also been distributing hand sanitation equipment like handwash containers and soap to public food markets which are allowed to operate.
To date, preparation for major events in this project has continued to unfold, but unfortunately the funds required to start real implememntaion in tangible sense, has not been met yet. Child Equal Opportunity Uganda is using this moment to try and polished even already planned activities to address the dynamic environmental challenges, by engaging children and making them understamd the that future of this world relies on how well or poorly we protect the environment.
Fundraising is continuing and when it get sufficient for first few activities, we will provide updates further updates on implementation and subsequent impacts. To highlight on few issues, we plan to create a situation where children do not only demand for envrionmental protection to secure their futures, but also participate tangibly through compound tree planting, practicing proper waste disposal and creating awareness about the need to protect the environment.
