Clean environment in Gulu, has been a concern for long, yet little is being done achieve this goal. People dump plastic and other waste material on open streets. Trees are being cut down for charcoal products. This project is aimed at making children take lead in pursuit to maintaining a clean and healthy environment, through tree planting and environmental education. By implementing this project, we hope to achieve full protection of natural resources that keeps the environment habitable.
People dump plastic and other waste materials on streets. Trees are being cut for charcoal. The government is inadequately investing into cleaning the environment, yet the need is urgent. Most children are witnessing the poor dumping habit and the indiscriminate cutting of trees. In fact, many have been made aware that trees must be cut down for them to feed or have money for tuition. Yet, most people are ignorant of the risks associated with poor dumping of waste material and tree cutting
We will have training and sensitization to educate children on how to maintain clean environment, through littering in designated places. The project will also will also train 1000 children from 10 schools in Gulu district to act as environmental ambassadors, to appeal to the general public on proper environmental management. We will also give seedlings and train 1000 children from 1000 homesteads to plant both wood and fruit trees in their locations.
By implementing a child led clean environment initiative; which will involve environmental awareness for both children and adult and planting of trees, we hope to have a generation that will prioritize the need to have a clean environment and consequently protect the natural resources that keeps the environment habitable.
