The last three months have been utilised to onboard our new program manager as well as the karigar, and progress with the embroidery training program.
Since our program manager has come on board at the beginning of June one of the main activities she has been concentrating on is the training process of our artisans. It’s fundamental for both our artisans, and our own growth that we concentrate on expanding their embroidery skills set as well as introducing more women to the program. With the support of the newly hired karigar, who joined the growing embroidery team at the beginning of July, we have trained the woman in new embroidery designs, fabric manipulation and the more challenging aari technique. The woman have enjoyed working on these new designs and are all growing in confidence in their embroidery skills.
In order for the embroidery project to create further impact we are creating educational training videos and contents to be shared on a state of the art learning platform, Udemy.com. This will be freely available to those who subscribe to our usage code of conduct and that accept to use the course only for non commercial and socially inclusive purposes. The platform will be an easy and effective way to interact with our partners, and will allow hundreds of more artisans to learn embroidery as a vocational skill. The program will comprise of training videos to give a background and foundation explanation to embroidery. This will include both aari and zardozi techniques as well as the essentials such as frame set up and design placement. The videos will be taught in conjunction with a planned curricular and by the end of the 3 month period each artisan will have finished a series of samplers through their practice. The filming partner for this project has been selected and we are currently finalising the script in order to start filming in September.
Another key activity the program manager has been working on is the development of new embroidered products, and the sourcing of materials. Now that we also have a new in-house designer in the team we are excited to see the designs they will come up with!
