After over six months of preparation, we are about to launch our embroidery training programme on the learning platform udemy.com. It consists of 19 educational videos with quizzes, teaching content and practice samplers to go with each lesson. We have chosen Udemy as the platform as it will allow the programme to be freely available to those who subscribe to our usage code of conduct and accept to use the course only for non-commercial and socially inclusive purposes.
The educational programme will allow the Embroidery Project to create a much further impact as through the platform we will be able to reach out to hundreds of more artisans to help them learn embroidery as a vocational skill. Udemy will also be an easy and effective way to interact with our current partners for their new embroidery training batches.
The curricular of the training programme is a background and foundation explanation to embroidery. This will include both aari and zardozi techniques as well as the essentials such as frame set up and design placement. A professional karigar/embroider will need to give practical advice and training throughout the programme in order for the outcome of the course to reach its full potential.
In January a new training supervisor joined the team to help train a new embroidery batch of 8 women on the beta version of the online programme. So far, they have had classes on the history of embroidery, how to set up the frame, tools and how to stitch 11 of the key zardozi techniques. They have started to practice on the NOW I CAN samplers and we can already see the training has been a success as they have turned out so well!
We are looking forward to uploading the final videos and content to udemy.com by the end of the month so we can connect with more artisans and the Embroidery Project can impact more lives!
