Summary Advocacy Course

IAHPC Advocacy Course Summary - Report

The IAHPC advocacy course is a component of the IAHPC Academy, which includes educational projects leading to certificates in different fields. Advocacy for integration of palliative care into primary health care within the spectrum of universal coverage, and for improved access to essential palliative care medications is one of four thematic areas in the IAHPC Strategic Plan 2020-2024. The advocacy course consists of several modules, which have been released monthly between October 2021 and May 2022.

The goal of the IAHPC advocacy course is to continue building and strengthening partnerships to accelerate global, regional, and national advocacy for palliative care.

This course was launched on September 2021. To date, 245 members from 57 different countries have taken Modules 1-5.

Participant comments on the various modules include the following.

 Module 1 – Institutional landscape

Great content. I'm so excited about this course. I feel like I'm in a wonderful seminar on palliative care and appreciate the opportunity to learn at my own pace and revisit the material as needed. The quiz is tough! I appreciate the hard work that went into producing such an important learning experience for IAHPC members. Thank you!

EXCELLENT This module is so simplified. easy to learn Thank You Dr.Pettus

Module 2 - Access to Essential Medicines: Normative, Historical & Policy context (Part One)

Thanks for this opportunity to know more about conventions and advocacy method

Participant from Italy

I had a lot of information thanks to this module. Thank you. I contacted the health ministry in my country but for me and for them, we did not know how to approach the problem. We had targeted the lack of training and we have increased training; there is still a long way to go

Module 3 Quiz - Advocacy for Access to Essential Medicines Part 2

This module is very informative. It is amazing to learn about all the achievements that have been made through the advocacy efforts of IAHPC over the years.

Participant from Uganda

This module is very interesting; I learned a lot: the interest of education for non-health professionals too; and working with decision makers. I am starting to see better how to organize advocacy in Haiti and before meeting again with the Ministry of Health, we are going to meet some key players such as pharmacists...

Module 4 – Advocating for access to palliative care for older persons

keep it up with this wonderful good work

Participant from Kenya

I have learned a lot from these modules on advocacy.

Participant from Uganda

Beautiful, concise presentation with clear objectives covering a dramatically current, multi-faceted theme that needs global action. A presentation that should become a shared heritage for every healthcare professional and for every citizen. Palliative care is part of healthy aging. The emphasis on adequate policies for the support of caregivers and on the role of primary care to reduce the barriers to access to palliative care, in every place, is excellent. Thanks.

Participant from Italy

I just want to say that this module is very helpful and has good information and phrases that say what is important perfectly. For example, "PC brings joy, PC is about life, PC spurs capacity building and resilience, PC helps patient and family along the last sacred journey in life, PC uses evidence through stories, testimonies, photos and videos. PC supports aging by relieving symptoms and supporting care givers. This positive counter narrative is so motivating. Thank you.

Module 5 - Ethics of advocacy for palliative care

Is always a pleasure joined this course, it's smart and brilliant and a "must have" for palliative care professionals, it is unique opportunity to go deep inside advocacy, rarely discussed in most training. Thanks to IAHPC for this great course.

Participant from Italy
