Wishing you all a very Happy New Year and we hope you enjoyed the festive season with family and friends.
Although Cambodia is a predominantly Buddhist country, the kids (and staff!) at Tiny Toones love the christmas celebration. We collect gifts all year from donors and visitors and spend December wrapping them to hand out to each child and teenager, along with food, games, and lots of singing and dancing. A special thank you to Board Member Richard who each year adds an extra donation to make this day special.
We'd also like to anounce our newsest Board Member Cheryl Yin who joined our team in 2024. Cheryl was born and raised in Long Beach California, the same area as our founder KK. She is a linguist anthropologist and Assistant Professor at Carleton College in Minnesota. This brings our Board of Directors to seven people with four based in the US, one in the UK and two in South East Asia. We are thrilled to welcome her and excited about our robust team heading in to 2024.
This past year we have been fortunate to have the SOL Foundation (Germany) support us in the refurbishment of our centre. Due to our closure and lack of funds during Covid, our building was in some dire need of fixing and with their help we were able to repair the music and dance studio, add a roof to our sports area and a playroom and library. This work resulted in a healthy environemnt for us to continue our daily activities where your ongoing support plays the vital role in our continued success working with our most vulnerable kids.
We are very proud of our Tiny Toones alumni who have been training and competing in hip hop and breakdancing locally and internationally over the last few months. After performing at the South East Asia (SEA) Games in the break-dance battles, they also made it to the grand final of Cambodia's Got Talent live on televsion, and most recently competed in Battle of the Year in Japan! We couldn't be more proud of the men and women they have grown into, all having spent their teen years at Tiny Toones training under KK as students and then staff members, and now conquering local television, television in Japan, and the world stage.
Lastly, we'd like to announce that our former Manager and current Board Member Romi Grossberg will launch her memoir HIP HOP & HOPE in 2024. Her book highlights her experiences in Cambodia as the Manager of Tiny Toones (the highs and lows!) with 50% of proceeds going to our centre. We can't wait to get our hands on it later this year.
We hope to see you in person soon, or online through our social media platforms (mostly FB and Insta).
Best wishes from KK and our Tiny Toones Family xxx
