Sierra Cares Foundation (SCF) focuses on helping orphan children with no other source of support, aiding vulnerable women to gain education and employment and funding child education. We believe that prevention, not reaction, is the key to changing communities and supporting them for long term sustainability. SCF assists women and children who are vulnerable to poverty, human trafficking and need food. We are a newly-registered official US non-profit and appreciate your support!
Many Sierra Leonese woman and children seek jobs in Arabic countries with the hope of earning money to send home. Most are trapped in horrific working conditions where they become victims of slave labor and sex trafficking. Women who do come home are often shunned by their family and community, typically due to the abuse they suffered, facial and bodily deformities and pregnancies. SCF provides community education to prevent woman/children from trafficking, child marriage and prostitution.
Sierra Care Foundation serves to (1) provide an emergency safe house for abused women and orphaned children, (2) help educate children in the Makeni School and (3) provide education in the form of literacy, basic hygiene, medical support and financial independence to live on their own successfully. Sierra Cares Foundation will also provide an educational job program that is applicable to meet the needs of impoverished women who are repatriated after being trafficked to other countries.
Education, human trafficking training and preventative wellness programs will allow the people of Makeni to recognize situations that could result in their women and children being sent to countries who are enslaving and torturing them. These programs will allow orphaned children to receive an education enabling them to have a successful future. Education is the key to changing the culture and eradicating the cycles of poverty that contribute to abuse, exploitation and enslavement.
