Ethiopia faces severe humanitarian challenges due to overlapping crises, including climate-related disasters, armed conflicts, diseases, and economic shocks. These crises have significantly weakened community resilience and led to severe food and water shortages. As a result, many people, especially children, suffer from malnutrition and lack of clean water. This specific project aims to mitigate the impact of these events by improving nutritional security, access to water and agriculture.
The ongoing drought comes at a time when communities are still recovering from previous droughts (2021-2023) and the devastating conflict in the North (2020-2022). Irregular rainfall has severely impacted agricultural and livestock production, exacerbating critical food and nutritional insecurity in rural areas. This situation is further complicated by limited access to clean water and health care services, putting the lives of many at significant risk.
COOPI is providing comprehensive support to help the community thrive by: Providing quality seeds and agricultural materials to boost crop production Supplying livestock feed to support pastoralists during drought Repairing and improving 3 water systems for reliable access to water Installing solar power systems for 2 wells for a sustainable water source Rehabilitating water systems and latrines in 4 schools to improve sanitation Promoting good hygiene practices and distributing kits
Working in Ethiopia since 1995, COOPI plays a vital role in improving the lives of vulnerable communities. Our mission focuses on bolstering food and nutritional security, improving water and sanitation infrastructure, and strengthen protection mechanisms for vulnerable populations. By integrating humanitarian interventions with development and peace-building initiatives, the project aims to foster lasting improvements in the well-being of Ethiopian communities.
