We are aiming to raise money for children from disadvantaged and vulnerable backgrounds. We try to give the children an opportunity of a lifetime. These children have been selected and deserve to go to a Top High School in South Africa, to have a better future and be able to follow their dreams. Our goal is to provide at least 15 children with the basic support they need to thrive at a top level high school in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa.
Children from disadvantaged and vulnerable backgrounds, living in the townships of Port Elizabeth, do not get a fair chance at a good education. The schools located in these areas do not have the resources and money to equal the same educational levels of the schools in the wealthier areas. Only 3% of the children from these areas go to University.
United Through Sport focuses on education, sport and life skills to keep children off the streets. Motivated and talented children from the township areas are selected for the Junior School of Excellence Programme. The programme provides after school activities to motivate the children, for a brighter future. We want to give these kids an opportunity of a lifetime with senior school scholarships to top level high schools in Nelson Mandela Bay through our Senior School of Excellence Programme.
The Junior and Senior School of Excellence programmes prepare the children for a brighter future, motivating them to follow their career dreams. Many of the children who finish high school, go on to study at University - often the first in their families to do so. This increases their chances significantly to be employed with good jobs. It will lead to the eventual uplifting of their families and the community around them. United Through Sport helps them to break out of the poverty cycle.
