Chamber Music Northwest is known for the outstanding artists we bring to Portland for concerts. But an equally important part of our mission is connecting with our community through education and community engagement programs.
To better serve our community, CMNW engages an ensemble to serve as our “Artists in Residence” each season. In addition to their concerts, our Artists-in-Residence commit to numerous education and community engagement activities over the course of two summer festivals, and return visits during the rest of the year. Our 2018-19 Artists-in-Residence are the very popular Dover Quartet, who have already been with us twice this year: July and October 2018. They will return in February and July 2019 for both concerts and community activities.
CMNW has already set a new record, serving 1,680 students and community members this season:
Oct. 5 Dover Quartet performances at Ventura Park Elementary
Oct. 6 Dover Quartet coached Metropolitan Youth Symphony ensembles
Oct. 6 Dover Quartet performance at Pacific Senior Living
Oct. 28 Jeffrey Kahane gave a piano master class at PSU
Oct. 29 Gloria Chien & Soovin Kim performed at Arbor School
Nov. 3 Andrew & Daniel Hsu performed at Willamette View and Laurel Parc retirement homes
Nov. 13 Gilles von Sattel performed for BRAVO at George Middle School
Nov. 16 Akropolis Reed Quintet preformed for homeless teens at p:ear and also worked with BRAVO at Cesar Chavez school
Nov. 19 Canadian Brass gave performances for school groups at Newemark Theatre
Dec. 4 Miró Quartet performed at Ventura Park Elementary
Don’t miss our benefit event dedicated to Education and Community Engagement programs: Monday, February 11th at Portland Playhouse. Spend an evening “Backstage with the Dovers” and have a fun evening learning about CMNW’s community programs and the Dovers’ spectacular rise from CMNW Protégé artists to international stardom.
Your support, through Global Giving, helps us bring outstanding artists to share with our Portland community. Thank you for your gifts, which are making great music accessible to all!
