Grants Awarded to Catalyze Young Women Leaders

Three Young Leaders Energize Change at Semillas
Three Young Leaders Energize Change at Semillas

Thank you, friends and supporters, for investing in our partnership with CHIME FOR CHANGE to power young women leaders and infuse new energy, resilience, skills, and tactics into established women’s movements. With your support, Global Fund for Women launched this project three months ago. Since then, we finalized our grantmaking to three local women’s funds—HER Fund in Hong Kong, ELAS Fund in Brazil, and Fondo Semillas in Brazil—to create a pipeline of young feminist leaders organizing across generations and issues.

Over the last three months, Global Fund for Women worked to make sure that the three groups have the resources they need to catalyze young women’s leadership. The organizations shared proposals on how they will organize women activists to empower the leadership of young women and gender non-conforming youth. We reviewed their project goals, strategies, and programmatic abilities per our established due diligence criteria, processed documentation, and made grant payments.

With support from Global Fund for Women, the groups are now furthering their young women’s leadership initiatives. HER Fund is resourcing a project on dating violence among secondary school girls. Fondo Semillas is advancing its “Marea Verde” or “the green sea” campaign to establish a large community, especially of young women and men, in support of legalizing abortion in Mexico. ELAS Fund is investing in its “Building Movements - Contemporary Feminisms” program, with particular focus on young women’s collectives and marginalized groups such as LBTQI, black women, and disadvantaged women and girls.

Global Fund for Women believes that young women’s leadership is critical to the sustainability and resiliency of women’s movements and long-term social transformation. When empowered young women rise up together, they realize a better future—for them, and for all of us. We thank you for sharing and supporting our vision.
