Creating intergenerational coalitions has the potential to infuse new energy, skills and tactics into established movements. CHIME FOR CHANGE is partnering with Global Fund for Women to connect young activists with experienced advocates and grassroots organizations. Global Fund for Women will support 3 sister women's funds-Semillas in Mexico, HER Fund in Hong Kong, and ELAS in Brazil-to invest in, highlight, and build locally-led community investment for young women's leadership.
Young women leaders are not only the future-they are who we need now. But without necessary resources of knowledge, networks, movement strengthening skills, and mentorship, they're unable to jumpstart their fresh and energetic ideas for transformative social change. More importantly, few opportunities exist for young women and youth leaders to engage with the generation of women's rights activists before them, often excluding their voices and collective power from established women's movements.
This project will invest in the capacity of local women's funds to support young women and youth activists and the programs they lead. We are creating the pipeline of young leaders in Hong Kong, Brazil, and Mexico, who are organizing across issues and generations, and developing innovative approaches to create social change. The grants given to each of the women's funds will enable them to provide training, as well as invest in programs and projects led by young women and youth activists.
By investing in local women's funds, CHIME and Global Fund for Women will help to build the sustainability of local women's movements and locally-led community investment in Hong Kong, Brazil, and Mexico. Local women's funds will strengthen the capacity of smaller, emergent grassroots organizations focused on young women and youth. They will also empower, inspire and energize intergenerational engagement in the women's movements in their countries by building skills and supporting young leaders.
