Project Summary
This Project is aimed at reducing poverty in Bukpe Community, Nigeria, through the provision of cassava milling machine in Bukpe community, Kwali Area Council, Abuja. The provision of the machine is to improve the processing of cassava produce (garri), as well as increase the sales of garri and the economic income of 120 farmers in the community, promote a culture of entrepreneurship using the street business school curriculum.
Challenge
Bukpe village has the highest number of cassava farmers. However, the economic impact of their small-scale farming is limited due to restricted access to resources to further process their cassava and more than half of the community live in poverty. Farmers interviewed revealed that at least 60% of cassava is lost in cassava processing and they incur high post-harvest losses despite the intensive application of labor. Women farmers peel cassava manually and drying takes place on the floor in homes.
Progress Report
We are still looking for finances to install the cassava processing plant and move forward with our project. Because we did not receive the funds required to completely implement our proposed project, the funds raised were used to carry out the activities that could be carried out, which was entrepreneurship training.
Thank you very much.
