Summary

Many people living on the streets in Nigerian cities have no access to basic healthcare. This project brings trained health workers directly to them on foot, or tricycle to offer them first aid, health checks, and support with referrals. We aim to reach at least 1,000 homeless individuals across Lagos slums, Abuja and Nasarawa in the first year. Deaths of homeless People keep rising due to untreated illness and injuries. It's a small way to say, "You matter," to people who are often ignored.

Challenge

In targeted cities, people living on the streets are cut off from healthcare. They are often dealing with untreated wounds, infections, mental health issues, and chronic illnesses like high BP or diabetes but have no money or access to hospitals. Many are ignored, harassed, or even chased away from health centres. As a result, avoidable deaths among the homeless are rising, especially during rainy season, harmattan, or disease outbreaks. Most of these deaths are preventable with early care.

Solution

We're taking healthcare directly to the streets-no clinic walls, no waiting rooms. Trained health workers will visit known hotspots in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, offering basic care like wound treatment, blood pressure checks, malaria testing, and urgent referrals. We'll also give out hygiene kits, talk to people about staying safe, and help connect them to nearby clinics when needed. Volunteers and nurses will be trained to spot health risks early, build trust with street communities.

Long-Term Impact

This project will help more homeless people get care early-before small health problems turn deadly. Over time, we hope to reduce deaths linked to untreated illness, build trust between street populations and health workers, and create a local model that others can copy in other cities for a longer-term assistance like rehab, shelter referrals, and mental health support. With time, we hope this street medicine work will help shift how society sees and treats people living on the margins.
