We are seeking your support to make a gift of inspiration to young people in Cambridgeshire. Many of them face a major struggle to make something of their lives, including knowing how to navigate the world of work and careers. By bringing employers into schools and providing workshops, mentoring and work experience, students increase their careers awareness and skills, motivation and ambition. Our goal is that all young people move successfully from education into employment.
Cambridge is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK - a buoyant tech and life sciences hub - but it's also the most unequal, with high levels of poverty and disadvantage alongside great wealth. Even in more affluent areas, young people are unaware of the opportunities on their doorstep, yet employers in turn are struggling to recruit people with the skills they need. By connecting young people with leading businesses, we are bringing the community together to create brighter futures.
Through our events and activities young people can build their network of business contacts and meet inspiring role models doing jobs they didn't know existed in industries which are recruiting. Students also develop essential employability skills, such as how to network effectively, create a CV or mastering the interview. By giving young people access to a wide range of professionals from their local business community, we help them make informed decisions about their future careers.
Good careers guidance at the right time can be transformational. Providing insights into the world of work and professional life can inspire young people, help them choose the best routes into training and employment and empower them to unleash their potential. We build their confidence and with our partners offer them stepping stones to the future. We focus special attention on those most at risk and by guiding young people into work we and our partners become champions of social mobility.
