At PCI, we really want to grow a youths potential to get into the career force, and we realize that experience plays a large part in anyone's ability to get into the workforce. One of the strongest ways to give a young student professional experience to help them on their career paths is through the job shadow...however, not many students are aware of opportunities in their area for a job shadow. PCI hopes to change that thanks to the Manager-in-Training (MiT) Program.
The MiT program is a job shadowing experienced created in partnership with Secura Insurance and expected to gain many more partners as the program progresses. It's designed to get undergraduate college students to have an opportunity to job shadow and get a feel for working in professional managerial positions in big businesses. We have engaged with many students over the two years we've done it, students picked through a combination of interviews, resumes, and whether they have overall interests in the career field we are hosting the job shadows for.
Reception to the program has been overwhelmingly positive, with students citing how the experience has opened their eyes on the possibility of working in a managerial position and how the staff and leaders of the program were super friendly. We are looking to continue MiT and expand it further to include other businesses, including Amazon, Plexus, Thedacare, and others.
