Every child deserves to grow up nourished. But in poor communities across the Philippines, hunger keeps children from learning, playing, and dreaming. Through Kusina ng Kalinga (KnK), Gawad Kalinga serves hot, nutritious meals to children who need them most. Cooked with love by volunteers and community caregivers, each meal is a lifeline-reclaiming children's health, energy, and future, one plate at a time.
Hunger affects 1 in 3 Filipino children. Many go to school with empty stomachs, leading to poor focus, low attendance, and stunted growth. Post-pandemic poverty, food inflation, and climate disasters worsen the crisis. Without urgent help, over 95 children die daily from malnutrition. Hunger isn't just about food-it's about a stolen future.
Kusina ng Kalinga serves hot, nutritious meals to children for just 50 per plate. From August 2022-July 2023, KnK provided 1.3M+ meals to 225,000+ kids. Community volunteers cook and deliver food daily, boosting health, classroom attendance, and hope. Each kitchen feeds not just bellies, but a spirit of bayanihan that transforms entire villages.
KnK reduces malnutrition, helps children learn better, and empowers parents as partners in feeding and healing. It builds caring, self-sustaining communities. Long-term, it nurtures healthier youth, lowers dropout rates, and strengthens resilience. With more support, this model can expand across the Philippines-ending child hunger, one kitchen at a time.
