ECI Care Home is a remarkable private residential care home nestled in Kabul, Afghanistan. It serves as a safe haven for 26 children and youths with disabilities who have faced the heart-wrenching experience of being abandoned or orphaned. It offers residential care, education, physiotherapy, healthcare and meals - all provided with love and care by ECI staff who stay with the children 24/7. It is the only care home for children with disabilities in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan has one of the largest disabled populations in the world. Afghanistan is still also one of the most heavily-mined countries in the world. Many children suffer from war-wounds and become amputees in terrorist attacks and mine explosions. The Asia Foundation Model Disability Survey for Afghanistan showed that 17.3% of children, and 80% of adults, have some form of a disability. Many children with disabilities are abandoned by their parents and facing social exclusion and abuse.
ECI Care Home for disabled children is the sole orphanage in Kabul that offers comprehensive residential care exclusively to disabled orphans and abandoned children with disabilities. It currently accommodates a total of 26 children and youths today. Among them, 18 boys and eight girls, ranging in age from approximately four to 21 years old, find solace and care in this nurturing environment. They all receive meals, education, recreational activities, physiotherapy and healthcare.
ECI has been successfully been integration residents from the ECI Care Home to public schools, allowing children with disabilities to receive inclusive education, vocational training and employment and therefore find their role in the society. ECI provides love and care for children with all type of disabilities including intellectual, trauma-induced, sensory, and physical disabilities and provides a safe loving family-like environment for them all to blossom.
