George Friml Rolls with Armed Art Internationally renowned metalsmith George Friml began his first ABV CNVLD tenure with Armed Art this week at the Don Bosco Technical School.
George Friml, an Australian Business Volunteer on this his first of three annual tenures, will spend two months training Don Bosco Technical School Phnom Penh students and teachers in fine metalwork techniques, tool production and high quality manufacture procedures as part of the Armed Art project.
A teacher at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), George also provides technical lectures twice a week on subjects such as metallurgy, machine maintenance, creative and technical design and fine finishing.
The Cambodian Don Bosco trainee engineers will initially produce a range of sculptures, furniture and trophies from destroyed weapons donated by the Cambodian Government for inclusion in the upcoming international tour of the ‘Exhibition from Cambodia: To Be Deter-Mined’ before establishing a specialist department within Don Bosco producing unique sports trophies and furniture of the very highest quality
