Expanding maternal healthcare services supports mothers' health, enabling them to manage conditions like hypertension and prepare for safer deliveries. It also contributes to healthier babies by providing crucial prenatal and postnatal care, such as fetal growth monitoring and early detection of complications. Your support is an investment in the resilience of the entire community, paving the way for a healthier and brighter future in Haiti.
The National Institutes of Health reports that Haiti suffers the Western Hemisphere's highest maternal and neonatal mortality rates, with a staggering 488 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births annually. This project amplifies Care 2 Communities' capabilities, allowing it to cater to its annual 1,000 patients, extend post-natal care through its Community Health Program, and enhance clinic-level access for women and newborns.
The Maternal Health Program at C2C provides an all-inclusive healthcare approach, from early pregnancy to the infant's first six months. The program includes appointments with qualified nurse-midwives and OB/GYN professionals, diagnostic services such as laboratory tests and ultrasounds, and pharmaceuticals, including prenatal vitamins. First-time consultations include an in-depth evaluation and counseling, establishing a safe birth plan, and ensuring regular follow-up visits.
Broadening the reach of this program to additional clinics is projected to escalate the number of maternal health consultations conducted within our network (which recorded 2100 such visits in 2020). This expansion aims to contribute to our overarching mission of diminishing maternal and infant mortality and morbidity in the region of northern Haiti that we serve.
