You can give families the tools to put food on their own tables. One in eight people in the developing world don't have enough to eat. Rural farmers in developing countries struggle to grow enough food for their own families, much less sell for additional income. Without tools and support, they stay locked in the cycle of poverty.
Poverty is complex. Take rural Uganda, for example. Most families depend on subsistence farming. But their small farms have been overcultivated, so they struggle to grow crops. Small crops mean that there is not enough food, and children are malnourished. Malnourished children rarely have the energy to go to school or to the project Centre.
As the staff at our project ponder these issues, they came up with the idea of purchasing cattle for the families we serve. And because of gifts from partners like you, we have a vision of giving cattle project to 60 families in their communities - a number that will only grow! Each family receives a cow, training and the supplies to build a small shed and when these cows give birth, their calves will be given to other assisted families.
For a family living in poverty, animal gifts like a chicken, goat, cow or pig ensure that a child will have a steady source of nutrition as well as income. Selling chicken eggs or goat's milk at the market is how many families make their way out of poverty. Because of your gift, children will have plenty of milk to drink, families will have more fertile soil, and the cycle of poverty will be broken.
