Buy Chickens for street children in Nepal

Firstly, we want to make sure you all know about our upcoming UK fundraiser - the comedy event of the year....

Comedy Rocks is coming to Brighton, England.

This 3rd December we are delighted to present Comedy Rocks, an extravaganza of stand-up comedy. Featuring unique sets from fantastic comedians such as Simon Evans, Zoe Lyons, Marcel Lucont, Michael Fabbri and other great acts.

All proceeds will go towards supporting our much-needed children’s home in Birgunj, Nepal, which provides vital shelter and education to vulnerable street children.

Now, on to the important updates....

We are one step closer to building our sustainable home for the street children of Birgunj, Nepal. With over 150 children living on the streets of Birgunj, this is no small task!

This week we welcomed the newest residents - our chickens....they are absolutely loving their homemade coop (thanks Nepalese team for doing a fantastic job).

Next up - our organic vegetable gardens! 

In other, children's home news:

Earlier this month, we celebrated the important day of dashain, called Bijya Dashmi, blessing all of our children for a successful life! For the occasion the boys received chocolates and sweets from the local company, Salt and Sweet Ltd! Obviously the boys were thrilled with this particular donation :-)

It is important we thank our local Nepalese supporters too - from local business owners, community officials and even worldwide manufactuers - thank you all!

We have also had a lovely visit from Raina and Manisha who managed to raise a fantastic £2000 for Our Sansar. When they arrived they found a happy home with children eager to learn - from guitar classes to excelling at maths at school.

OUR BIG NEWS..... we have welcomed 2 new boys to the home this month, welcome Dilip and Bikash! They are busy settling in to their new home at the moment and getting to know our families' mother, other volunteers and of course the rest of the boys. We will bring you some more updates on them shortly!

Thank you for reading and of course, thank you for your ongoing support and interest in what we do! The boys lives have changed some much since December when we welcomed them into our home, they are all receiving a fantastic education, healthy, nutritious meals and a loving family home - we are confident that they will all have a future away from the streets!

WOW - so it has happened - the buffaloes have arrived!!!

It has been a long road of planning, making sure 1. we had the funds we needed to not only buy the buffaloes, but ensure we could properly care for them, and 2. to build and create their home!

With the boys in our children's home in Birgunj settled, happy (and strangely super eager to be at school and learn as much as possible!), we wanted to make sure our buffaloes had a home just for them too. 

Deepak and our local Nepalese staff have been hard at work preparing a lovely home for these new arrivals:

After all your generous donations and support during our Winter Campaign we’d like to introduce  you all to:

Motu and Chotu the buffaloes….

Speaking about our new friends, Apara, Our Sansar Children's Home Manager said;

“On their first night we tried to bring them inside to relax but Motu was too big for the gate!

But they’ve both settled in really well and seem really relaxed and happy. Plus the kids love them!”

A few buffalo facts:

• Buffaloes have been part of farming in Nepal for centuries.
• Traditionally they provide families with milk, manure, meat, hides (though don’t worry ours are purely being used for milk!)
• Buffalo milk is highly nutritional.
• They produce 15 litres of milk a day! – providing a great source of income.

Thanks to everyone’s hard work over the past few months we now have a source of income for the home, AND the children have a free highly nutritional source of milk right on their doorstep.

But... it doesn’t stop there. Thanks to you all we are one step closer to our dream of creating self sufficient living for street children in Nepal, giving them a family home - enabling their education and ensuring they are healthy and have the best possible start at a future away from the streets.

With over 6000 children living on the streets of Nepal right now, this is no easy feat. But, with your help we can do it!

Although our buffalo campaign has come to an end, we have a number of other campaigns to help us reach this dream - and any support you can give us would be wonderful.

• Funding the on-going costs of our Children’s Home in Birgunj, Nepal and raising money to send the boys to a better local school that provides English and IT lessons on top of all the essentials!

• With all this focus on housing, hygiene, health and education it is easy to forget sometimes that these are children, aged between 6 and 15 - they also need a bit of fun in their lives which is an essential part of their education! This project aims to give them just that - check it out here!
