Summary

This project would provide business training to 20 mayan women who have the desire to start or improve a business to help them empower themselves as women and contribute to their family revenues. During the business training 20 mayan women will learn human development themes, gender equity, business management, marketing, finances, accounting, sales, customer service and corporate social responsibility.

Challenge

According to the Secretariat of Social Development in Mexico, the 72.9% of the population in Oxkutzcab, Yucatan is living in poverty. The lack of opportunities and the social backwardness in the region have resulted in the migration of the male population, causing that the women become the main source of livelihood of their families, but the limited access to education hinders them to have a worthy job. This project seeks the training for self-employment and the increase of their family revenues

Solution

Fundacion ProEmpleo will provide business training for mayan women where not only they will learn to manage their business, we will also work on their self esteem and that will increases their personal security level so they can empower themselves and be able to generate their own incomes and keep their familiar economy stable.

Long-Term Impact

Fundacion ProEmpleo seeks to benefit mayan women, so that they can receive business training and they can start or improve a business that enables them to promote productive working groups and influence the development of their community to increase the opportunity of employment within the municipality. Self-employment will allow mayan women raise their educational and socio-economic level, have changes in gender relations, and to empower future generations of women and prevent migration.
