Business and Education Micro-lending for Youth

by Poverty 2 Prosperity, Inc.

Summary

Young adults need opportunities to work or get an education. By allowing them to access affordable loans for businesses or education, we give them options! Typically, young adults have less experience and fewer resources. With a micro-loan, they have real choices. We will create a fund to Youth Fund to help fund loans on our usual lending platform. Repayments will be used to make additional loans, so this is a donation that gives more than once.

Challenge

In many regions, there are few opportunities for employment, and often the young have higher unemployment rates than adults with more years of experience. Higher education can be prohibitively expensive if one must pay prior to the term. This means that there are many young adults cannot access education or employment.

Solution

This project is to create a revolving fund to invest in young adults' education and small businesses. Additionally, we will help parents fund elementary and secondary education. By offering a way to pay gradually, families can help themselves better their situation for the youth. Repayments will be returned to the fund to help more youth!

Long-Term Impact

Students will be able to start and finish education so that they have more skills to offer. Women who continue their education tend to marry later and their children are healthier. We will also lend to youth run businesses, offering an self-employment opportunity. Initially, we plan to participate in 40 loans, but repayments will increase this number.
