Build homes for families living in extreme poverty

The first weekend of March a group of 20 volunteers and a group of proyectoPERUANOS leaders headed to the human settlement Nuevo San José in the province of Cañete (150 Km South of Lima city). It was 2 days of very hard work, with extremely satisfying results. We built 2 houses for the families Saavedra Unucuica and Gamboa León.

The family Saavedra Unucuica is composed of Gregorio (father), Diana (mother), Judith (child age 6), Hugo (child age 5, picture attached), Carolina (child age 2) and Cristabel (child 9 months old), they were living in a one bedroom house made of reed mats and the floor was only dirt. And the family Gamboa León is composed of Juan (Husband) and Antonia (Wife), they were also living in a one bedroom house made of reed mats and also had dirt as their floor, this didn't helped Antonia at all since she needs special care because she had polio as a child.

We wish emotions could be written here, so you could have an idea of how gratifying and fulfilling is the moment when the families inaugurate their new homes. When they go in for the first time and realize this is not going to be another cold winter because they have a solid roof over they heads is priceless. This is the moment when we all agree "Helping others is food for our souls".
