Since 2016, Piece of Syria has provided learning opportunities to nearly 50,000 children through education support. We are the only NGO in Japan that supports a kindergarten and have helped more than 1,500 children attend kindergarten.
The kindergarten started with 100 children but has grown thanks to generous donations. This year, 350 children are attending the kindergarten for free, where they can receive both psychological care and basic education.
Most children who graduate from our kindergarten go on to elementary school. The basic skills they learn in kindergarten, like reading, writing, math, and their experience of interacting with friends, help them continue their education without interruption.
Because of the war, some schools have been used to promote conflict-related ideologies, but our kindergarten focuses on teaching peaceful values through activities like drama and sports.
Children who lose educational opportunities because of the war are at risk of being recruited by armed groups or turning to crime. However, by staying in school, these children can hold onto hope and open up more choices for their future.
