Why Is Kindergarten Important?

Since its establishment, Piece of Syria has been running a kindergarten in northern Syria. The roles of this kindergarten include:

  1. Providing basic education
  2. Offering psychological care and emotional support
  3. Helping children learn to communicate and make friends

A local survey found that about 80% of children who didn’t attend kindergarten later dropped out of elementary school. This shows that early education is important for children to successfully continue their studies in the future.

Due to the civil war, public services do not reach northern Syria. International organizations often only help build school facilities, and many teachers go unpaid.

Because many people are displaced by the war, many experienced teachers have left the area or taken other jobs to support their families, which has led to poor education quality. This is why it is important for children to learn basic subjects like Arabic, math, and English in kindergarten. This prepares them to enter and succeed in elementary school.
