'PROGRESSIVE' works to create safe, resilient, inclusive and sustainable learning environments in schools and focuses not only on providing better learning facilities within campus but also targets on improving the infrastructure and safe routes to schools for children. The project targets to train school staff and students in environment protection, rainwater conservation, developing kitchen gardens and harvesting, The project also undertake bathroom renovations, providing safety & privacy.
Across Pakistan, many schools face severe vulnerabilities: Buildings are often structurally unsound, unable to withstand floods, earthquakes, or extreme weather. Basic facilities like electricity, clean water, and sanitation are missing in large numbers of schools-especially in provinces like Balochistan. Schools are frequently used as emergency shelters during disasters, yet they're not designed for such dual functions. There's underfunding and weak integration of resilience guidelines.
This project will hopefully address the issues by :- Developing training manuals on school safety. Conducting school safety trainings for students and affected communities: Implementing awareness campaigns at the school level; Creating IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials on disaster risk reduction (DRR); Running mock drills and first aid training; Hazard mapping of schools-assessing both natural and man-made risks; Formulating contingency plans.
Steps to build resilient, sustainable schools will create lasting safety, stronger communities, climate adaptation, and better education outcomes. Such measures will hopefully reduce vulnerability, save costs, and cultivate a generation that can thrive in uncertain futures. Schools will become role models of sustainability (solar power, water conservation, green design) that would inspire other sectors. Knowledge of safety protocols would spreads beyond schools creating overall awareness.
