Challenges posed by the Covid-19 Pandemic

The nationwide lockdown and stay-at-home orders to control the spread of COVID-19 pandemic imposed in March, risked having a menacing effect on our collective mental well-being.

 A study states that a staggering 66.6% of slum households in Maharashtra are one-room facilities that make physical distancing impossible and heighten the distress associated with it.

Impact on Children:

Of the people facing these issues, 20 million are children. Isolation, uncertainty, fear, economic hardships and anxiety have gripped at-risk children the hardest.School shutdown has put a pause on their learning while lockdown has snatched their access to Play and safe spaces.  In a recent study on the impact of the lockdown, 37% of parents in India have reported that their children's mental well-being and happiness have suffered.

COVID Relief Measures for Children:

A statement issued by the World Health Organization recommended that we draw on the remarkable power of resilience that we naturally possess, to mitigate the fallout of the pandemic.

Stay at Home, Play at Home

With the support of our wonderful donors, Child Action is proud to have been able to help Toybank to develop the resources needed to ensure that children have routine-like normalcy, stay meaningfully engaged and mentally stimulated throughout lockdown. Toybank is doing this by providing at-risk children with digital Toybank Play A tHome Kits with games, activities and more, in order to keep children learning and meaningfully engaged.

Thanks to our supporters, as of 12th June 2020, more than 103 PlaySheets have reached 32,000 children via 285 support groups comprising 1323 teachers and 5028 parents.
